I've decided to couple one computer-friendly idea along with one offline suggestion.
As Jesse helpfully suggested in a comment on the preceding post, exercise can be a great way to take our mind off of things.
For today, I'm going to suggest walking. You can walk away from something bad, you can walk towards something good. You can walk to clear your head, you can walk to improve your health or mood. Frankly, it's a great option - but it can be hard to get started. Consider bringing some music with you! The combination could be just what you need.
If you don't feel like gettin' up and going, consider reading an entire webcomic. If it's a good one, it'll absorb your attention - and there's the possibility that you'll feel the smallest bit productive once done reading it! Here are a few of my favourites:

www.xkcd.com

Please feel free to post your own! I'm sure there are many good ones I haven't heard of.
Ideas of things to do, so that you don't have to resort to less-than-ideal options.

Because sometimes, we all need to be distracted.
"Life's a bitch, and then you die."
Life can be hard. And whether you're trying not to think about something, or you're trying to quit a negative behaviour, I'm hoping this blog can give you some ideas on how to better use your time (or brain space).
Every day, I'm going to post an idea of something you can do that will hopefully take your mind off of things. There are a lot of harmful behaviours we can engage in, in order to escape something. My goal is to make it easy to find the options that can have a similar effect, without the negative consequences.
1. Listen to Music
You can listen to your CD's, or music on youtube, or amazing radio stations at this website: http://www.filtermusic.net/
Music has the potential to make us feel alive, to take us away, to make us feel beauty.
Here are a few of my favourite songs (and please, post your own!):
- Benny Benassi vs. Public Enemy "Bring the Noise"
- David Guetta vs. The Egg
- Michael Buble "Haven't Met You Yet"
- Queen "Bohemian Rhapsody"
As always, feel free to send me ideas for distractions. We could all benefit from having healthy options available!
